Video driver removal guide
Bad old driver removal is one of the most frequent mistakes people make when installing new drivers - and it causes a lot of problems. The least you can do is to use the uninstaller program that came along with the old drivers, but if you want to completely avoid all problems, you should do it this way:
  1. Go to Driver Sweeper homepage, download it and install it - we will need it later.
  2. Remove your display drivers via "Programs and features" (that is for Windows Vista - in older versions of Windows use "Add or Remove Programs"), which can be found in Windows Control panel. Finding Nvidia or Ati on the list should not be too hard, right? Just make sure, that you remove everything related to your video card (tick all the components in the uninstaller program).
  3. After drivers have been removed, you will have to boot your computer into safe mode. It is pretty simple, really. Just reboot it and keep tapping F8 key on your keyboard during the boot process. Windows will display you a list of options on how to boot the computer - just pick "Safe Mode".
  4. Now you are running Windows in safe mode. If it recognizes any sort of new hardware and it wants to install any drivers, just close all pop-up windows. Do not allow Windows to do anything on its own.
  5. Now it is time for Driver Sweeper to do its job. Run it, choose "Nvidia - Display" or "Ati - Display" in the right field, click "Analyze" and then "Clean". After it finishes, close the program.
  6. We are very close to the end of this process. All you have to do now is reboot your computer (without safe mode) and it will be ready for a clean installation of new drivers.

NOTE: If you have bought a new video card, you should go through these steps before physically installing it into your computer.

No - all you have to do is only check "Display drivers" in Nvidia's removal program that you access through "Programs & Features" or "Add/remove programs"". In Driver sweeper it is clearly visible, that you only need to check "Nvidia - Display" and leave "Nvidia - Chipset" unchecked.
If you do so, your nForce drivers will remain untouched.
