• Best video card for ~ 200$: 2X Radeon HD 4850 512MB in Crossfire

  At this price we finally get some serious performance at a relatively affordable price. With two of these cards you should be able to run any game at full HD (1920x1080 or 1920x1200) with good performance. Buying two 1GB cards is not recommended because price gets too close to two Radeons HD 5770.

160$ to 400$

• best video card for ~ 290$: Radeon HD 5850

  Because AMD has finally managed to overcome availability problems with it's new generation graphics, price for this card has finally dropped to 290$. At this price it simply blows everything else away. It has all the advantages of AMD's new generation graphics, including low power consumption, DirectX 11 support and Eyefinity support.

• best video card on market for ~ 400$: 2x Radeon HD 4890 in Crossfire

  Two of these cards put in crossfire will outperform a Radeon 5870 and perform as well or outperform a Geforce GTX295. You don't really need anything faster, because with this setup you will be able to play games maxed out at any resolution. a great option if you have a Crossfire enabled video card.

above 400$

It is hard to recommend a card that sells above the 400$ price point, but if you want no-compromise performance, you should be aware of the options.

 

• option for ~ 400$: Radeon HD 5870

  Radeon HD 5870 is an alternative to two Radeons HD 4890. At the same price you loose some performance, but get some features in return. Those are very low power consumption at idle, DirectX 11 support and Eyefinity support. Triple LCD gaming anyone?

• best video card costing 700$: Radeon HD 5970

  For those, who always want the absolute best this is THE card. Putting two Radeon HD 5870 GPUs on one board makes a lightning fast video card. Until Nvidia's new generation graphics come out, this one will remain the best video card by far and if you believe some speculations, it will stay the fastest video card even after that happens.

 

This is it for this month. I am sure that each visitor will fiund a card that suits his needs. I would like to add, that if you buy two of the same video cards, you can connect them in Crossfire (ATI) or SLI (Nvidia) setup and get better performance than with only one card. In some rare cases you can actually save money and get the same performance as with one faster video card.
