Video card buying guide

Buying new computer hardware can become a long and time consuming task and video cards are probably the most quickly developing field of all PC components. That is why we have decided to offer you a monthly updated video card buying guide. By reading it you will get the latest information and the best video card for your money. All the prices in this guide are taken from sites of world's largest retailers and are for new video cards. If you want to know more about them and want to check their true performance, you can do that through our Review database. Cards in this guide are divided in price ranges and in each segment there are a few "winners", which offer most for their price.

under 90$

  • Best video card for ~ 50$: Radeon HD 4650

For such a low price, this card offers more than you would expect for such a low price. It is a good overclocker and will be a great upgrade if you are currently using an integrated video card.

  • Best video card for ~ 70$: Radeon HD 4670

Pros of this graphics card are lwo power usage nad gool all around performance. It is well worth considering if you were originally going for a Radeon HD 4650.

  • Best video card for ~ 80$: Geforce 9600 GT

Because of its 256-bit memory interface and fast DDR3 ram it gains advantage over Radeon HD 4670, so if you are willing to spend 80$ and not a $ more more, go for it. This is a relatively old video card, but Nvidia still has not managed to release a video card, that would beat it at the same price. Even Geforce GT240 with its GDDR5 memory is lagging behind.

95$ - 180$

  • Best video card for ~ 100$: Radeon HD 4850 512MB
  • This is the cheapest video card a serious gamer should consider. AMD has managed to lower it's selling price to 100$ and no other card can come even close at this price point. Because of the coming Radeon HD 5xxx series this card is slowly but surely being sold out, so hurry up if you want a lot of bang for little money.

  • Best video card for ~ 130$: Raeon HD 5750 1GB
  • Price of this video card is falling and at this point we can finally recommend it over Radeon HD4850 1GB and Geforce GTS 250 1GB. It costs only a bit more, but in exchange you get DirectX 11 support and tripple monitor support with AMD's Eyefinity technology.

  • Best video card for ~ 160$: Radeon 5770:

This one is a replacement for previous generation Radeon HD 4870 and while it is not any faster in DirectX 9 games, it offers some advantages in DirectX 10 titles and support for DirectX 11. Besides that it consumes much less power, runs cooler and quieter. As all Radeons HD5xxx do, this card also offers AMD Eyefinity support. Nvidia's only competitor to this card is Geforce GTX 260, but because of it's high price (190$), we simply can not recommend it.
