Netbooks have become very popular - and what is the first word that comes on my mind, when I hear the word "netbook". It is "Atom" - Intel Atom CPU, which has been the core of all popular netbooks. It sure does use very little power, but it is quite weak and not capable enough to handle today's multimedia. That is why many people have not yet decided to buy one. This is where Nvidia comes into play. They have developed a whole new netbook platform, based on Tegra CPU, which runs at 750MHz and is capable of 3D acceleration. Platform supports S-video out, HDMI out, USB, 200MHz DDR memory and hardware HD video decoding. To save power, they have decided to go with IDE SSD controller instead of SATA - IDE is more than fast enough for netbooks and uses less power. Manufacturers can also decide to embed up to 8GB of flash memory for cheaper versions. Please keep in mind, that I have described all features and that not all models will have all this ports. Even CPU frequencies will vary, starting at 600MHz. Nvidia claims such netbooks will be available for 99$ to 199$ price range, will run Windows CE (software development is in progress) and will last 10 to 15 hours on one battery charge. Nice, huh? Â
