| Some details on Nvidia's next GPU - a monster! |
|
Just a day after our reporting about R870 release date, we have come across some information about Nvidia's next generation GPU GT300. The biggest part of this news is the information about the number of shaders, which will rise to 512 shader units! For comparison, the current generation GPU has "only" 240 shader units (highest class video cards). This is a 114% improvement in number of shaders! Some changes have also been made about the formaton of shader clusters. Instead of heaving 24 shaders per cluster, GT300 will have 32 shaders per cluster and the number of clusters will change from 10 to 16. Each shader cluster will have 8 TMUs (texture mapping units), so that the number of TMUs will rise from 80 to 128. Some additional changes will be made in terms of parallelism (MIMD instead of SIMD). GT300 will be DirectX 11 compliant and be built in 40nm manufacturing process. It is expected to be released in Q4 of this year.
