Power consumption Q9100 uses more power than T9600 - that is sure, but you may be surprised by the results Intel has acheived with these mobile quad-core processors. Only the best chips are used and unless you are working at 100% CPU load, they consume much less power than you would think. If you are browsing the web on battery power, you should not notice big battery life differences between these two. Conclusion We have to admit, that there are no huge performance differences, but the power of four cores has been revealed for sure - you have to keep in mind, that there is a huge clock difference between these two processors, but nevertheless Q9100 managed to get ahead. So what should you do? Is it reasonable to buy a Core 2 Quad laptop? It is - if you need the multi threaded performance it offers. You should know, that Q9100 leaves T9600 far, far behind when doing video compression and editing, image editing, or when operating with different 3D modelling and construction programs. If you will not be using such programs, it is probably smart to buy a Core 2 duo mobile processor, because it is much cheaper. I am very thankful to a Notebookreview forums member jnickell, who owned two pretty much identical HP Pavilion HDX18 laptops - one with T9600 and other with Q9100. He ran these benchmarks and let me use his results in this little review.
