| Mobile Core 2 CPU benchmarks - Duo vs Quad |
|
Page 1 of 3 A lot has been said about quad core processors in the last few years. Most people still believe, that today's software can not use quad core processors properly (is not threaded enough) and buy dual core processors instead. That is mostly because quads are pricey, but when it comes to laptops, there is another concern - power consumption. In this short review I will try to compare two mobile processors, Core 2 Duo T9600 and Core 2 Quad Q9100.
So we are talking about two very capable mobile processors. Q9100 is very pricey and still a bit exotic, because today's market is not yet ready for mobile quads. T9600 on the other hand is cheaper, has two cores less, but runs at a higher frequency. What does that mean? Will its frequency make it up for the "missing" cores? We will see. Let's look at the laptop configuration first:
Benchmarks were ran on two different laptops, but the only noticeable difference between them was the CPU, so results should be very comparable. Let's look at 3DMark 06 results first:
We can see, that the quad outperforms T9600 in pretty much every test. That is because 3DMark can use more cores than just one. The difference in final score is mainly a consequence of high Q9100 CPU test score, although there is also small performance difference in normal, GPU-based tests. 9600M GT is a quite slow video card, so this difference would probably be a lot more noticeable with a more powerful one like a Geforce 9800M GTX, which can make better use of extra CPU power. Please proceed to the next page for more benchmarks.

This review is worthless...its not a direct comparison. You should have swapped processors in one machine (both processors should be supported by the chipset)that way we know for sure its the processor performance we see and not that of any other parts in the system. Good try though.
