| Intel's new stepping of i7 975XE - good news for overclockers |

Guys at Xbit Labs came across a completely new engineering sample - Core i7 975 D0 and did some testing wit it. Since there were no architectural changes made, they concentrated mainly on power consumption and temperature. Results look extremely good - especially for overclockers. 
They compared this CPU against a Core i7 920, with old C0 stepping and temperature and power consumption of these two in idle was exactly the same - as if that is not enough, the power consumption of the new 975XE D0 at full load was lower than that of i7 920 C0. You have to keep in mind, that 975XE is running at 3,33GHz, while 920 is running at 2,66GHz.
Whatever, you will say, 975XE is way to expensive to even think about buying it and you are correct, but there is another piece of good news hiding somewhere inside that review. Core i7 920 with D0 stepping will start selling soon and that means that Core i7 will finally become what overclockers were expecting from the beginning - it will almost certantly overclock much better.
