Cooler Master V10 - as close as you can get to water cooling?

If you thought, that CPU coolers can not get any bigger, you were wrong - very wrong. Cooler Master has engineered the most advanced CPU cooler to this date - it is called V10. It weights 1,2kg, has 10 heatpipes, 3 heatsinks, 2 120mm fans and a 70W TEC element (also known as a peltier element).

Sounds crazy, doesn't it? They say it can dissipate up to 200W of heat. If you are worried about the TEC power consumption, I should tell you, that it turns on only when your CPU is under heavy load. What does a TEC do? It acts as a heat pump and transfers heat from the hot side to the cooler side, but then the heatsink has to dissipate extra 70W created by this TEC. It seems that this cooler does its job great, but there are at least three downsides to it:

  1. Because of its size, it covers the memory slots on your motherboard, so you can not remove/replace your memory sticks without removing the cooler.
  2. Because of the peltier element, it generates extra heat, so you have to have VERY good air ventilation in your case to get all that heat out.
  3. It's price is crazy - its recommended price is 120$ and I believe most people will decide to drop a few bucks more and buy a water-cooling system.
